One afternoon, four children were playing with puzzles and talking when one student told his friends, “I know everything now! I know almost everything! I know a lot of stuff. Next year I am going to know everything… I think!”
- Teacher to student, “Wash your hands.” Student replies, “Which one?”
While working in Art with pasta that Mrs. Froio had dyed different colors, a student said, “I can’t believe you killed this spaghetti!”

- One morning, as the students were arriving, several children were playing in the writing area. Brandon had been very busy drawing. When he looked up, he saw his friend Lexi standing nearby. He looked at her and said, “Hey, pretty lady. When did you get here?”
During one garden planting week, all the children were very interested in planting seeds and what grows from them. At lunch, Molly took a small piece of her bread and said, “I am going to plant this sandwich seed so we can grow sandwiches in our garden.”
Often, teachers will ask the children to line up based on the letter their names start with. Recently, all the three year olds were asked to line up, then the fours, the fives, etc. Josh stayed seated. When asked if he was 3, 4, 5 or 6, he answered, “Oh, I’m J years old.”
- During concert rehearsal, we were telling the children how to react to applause and what it means. James put his hand on his chest and said, with a big smile, “My heart is trying to clap!”
One morning on the playground, the children found a unique looking caterpillar. They wanted to keep it, so a teacher found a small jar, put holes in the top and gave it food to munch. Damian came to inspect the treasure and noticed that it wasn’t moving. He turned his head sideways, looked in the jar and asked, “You alive in there?”
